eSIM for Global
Viasimo's Global eSIM starts at $9.99 for 1 GB over 7 days, running on local 5G networks where available. Plans last 3 to 365 days, arrive by email in minutes and install from your phone's settings, with no app.
Coverage depends on the plan: 117 to 127 countries
These plans do not all cover the same countries, and a bigger number is not always a superset. Pick your plan, then check your own countries in the coverage step before you pay.

Important to know
- This is a data-only eSIM. It carries no calls or SMS on its own number.
- Your existing number stays on your primary SIM, so calls and verification texts keep working.
- Your phone must support eSIM, and some carrier-locked phones cannot install one.
- Signal varies with location, terrain, congestion and your handset. Dense urban areas are consistently better served than remote ones.
- 5G only works where the host network has deployed it and your phone supports it. Everywhere else it falls back to 4G LTE.
- Unlimited plans run at full speed up to a fair-use limit, then continue at a reduced speed. Read the fair usage policy
Frequently asked questions
Does an eSIM work in Global?
Yes. Your Global eSIM connects automatically the moment you arrive, with no roaming fees and nothing to set up at the airport. Coverage runs on 4G LTE and 5G where the network has rolled it out, and falls back to 4G elsewhere.
Do I get 5G in Global?
Yes, where it has been deployed. 5G runs on The local networks we use in Global, and your eSIM uses it automatically on a 5G-capable phone, dropping back to 4G LTE outside covered areas. No country is covered everywhere, so 5G availability varies by location.
Does the Global eSIM work in the Maldives or Nepal?
No. Neither the Maldives nor Nepal is on this plan's covered list, even though India and Sri Lanka are. If you are adding a Maldives resort stay or a Himalayan trek to a wider trip, you will need a separate solution for those days, such as resort wifi or a local SIM bought on arrival in Kathmandu.
Will I have data during a stopover in Dubai or Doha?
Yes. Both the United Arab Emirates and Qatar are covered, as are Istanbul, Singapore and Hong Kong. Turn off airplane mode when you land and the eSIM will connect to a local partner within a minute or two. Note that WhatsApp and FaceTime calls have long been blocked on UAE networks, although messaging works.
Which Caribbean and Pacific islands does the Global plan cover?
Very few. Puerto Rico, Guam and some French islands such as Guadeloupe and Martinique are on the list, but Jamaica, the Dominican Republic, the Bahamas, Barbados, Fiji, French Polynesia, Tonga and Samoa are not. For an island-hopping trip, compare the covered list with your itinerary or consider a regional plan.
Does a global eSIM get round internet blocks in China?
Often, yes. Travel eSIMs in mainland China usually send data through a gateway abroad, so Google, WhatsApp and Instagram typically work without a VPN, while local wifi is filtered. This depends on where a plan's traffic exits, and some services block Hong Kong IP addresses. Test your key apps on arrival and keep a VPN installed as a backup.
How much data do I need for 7 days in Global?
For 7 days in Global, Viasimo sells 1 GB for $9.99 and unlimited data for $80.99. Our sizing recommendation, not a measurement: maps, messaging and the occasional lookup, about 1 GB a week; maps, social, photos and some browsing, about 3 to 7 GB a week. The data calculator on this site works it out from how you actually use your phone.

Global: what to know before you land
A Global plan is for trips that cross continents: a round-the-world ticket, a business trip through Dubai, Singapore and New York, or a gap year where the route keeps changing. It covers well over a hundred countries, including the main transit hubs, but several popular islands and parts of Africa are missing, so check every stop.

- 112 works from mobiles in the EU and many other countries; 911 in North America; varies elsewhere

- DOH Hamad International Airport, Doha
- IST Istanbul Airport
- SIN Singapore Changi Airport
Stopovers in Dubai, Doha, Istanbul and Singapore
One of the most useful things about this plan is that it covers the big long-haul transit hubs. The United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Türkiye, Singapore and Hong Kong are all on the list, so a layover in Dubai, Doha, Istanbul, Changi or Hong Kong can be online without hunting for airport wifi. The same goes for European hubs such as London, Frankfurt and Amsterdam, and North American ones such as New York, Toronto and Mexico City.
When you land for a connection, turn off airplane mode and give the eSIM a minute to find the local partner. If you are changing planes in under two hours, it is still worth it for messaging whoever is meeting you at your final destination.
In the UAE, be aware that WhatsApp, FaceTime and Skype voice and video calls have long been blocked on local networks, even though text messaging through those apps works. If you need to make calls during a Dubai or Abu Dhabi stay, use your home SIM's roaming for voice or arrange a call through a service that works there.
Maldives, Nepal, Fiji and the Caribbean: popular places left out
A long country list can make it easy to assume everywhere is included. Several of the world's most popular holiday destinations are not on this plan:
- Indian Ocean and Himalaya: the Maldives and Nepal are not covered, even though nearby India and Sri Lanka are.
- Pacific: Fiji, French Polynesia, Tonga, Samoa and New Caledonia are not on the list, while Australia, New Zealand and Guam are.
- Caribbean: most of the island nations, including Jamaica, the Dominican Republic, the Bahamas and Barbados, are not covered. Puerto Rico and some French islands are.
- Southern Africa: Zimbabwe, Namibia, Mozambique and Rwanda are missing, while South Africa, Botswana, Zambia, Kenya and Tanzania are included.
- Asia: Macau, Laos, Myanmar, Bhutan and Mongolia are not on the list.
If your round-the-world trip includes any of these, plan a separate solution for those days, or look at a regional plan that does include them.
Mainland China, Pakistan and other places with special rules
Some countries on this plan have rules that affect how you use your phone, and a roaming eSIM can make life easier.
In mainland China, travel eSIMs normally route data through a gateway outside the country, often Hong Kong. eSIMDB explains that this is why Google, WhatsApp and Instagram usually load on a roaming eSIM without a VPN, while hotel wifi and local SIMs are filtered. It depends on where a plan's traffic exits, so test your key apps on arrival and have a VPN installed beforehand.
In Pakistan, the PTA requires phone registration for handsets used with a Pakistani SIM. ProPakistani reports that foreign SIMs on roaming can be used without registering, which saves you the paperwork on a short visit.
In countries with frequent internet shutdowns, a travel eSIM offers no protection. It relies on local networks, so if a government orders mobile data cut during protests or an election, your connection goes too. Check news before travelling to places such as Tanzania or Uganda around elections.

Fourteen days round the world: London, New York, Tokyo, Singapore and Sydney
A westbound round-the-world route through five covered countries on four continents, for travellers on a multi-stop ticket: London, New York, Tokyo with a day trip to Kamakura, a Singapore stopover and a finish in Sydney.
When to go October and November work well across the whole loop: autumn in London, New York and Tokyo, the start of the wetter but still pleasant inter-monsoon in Singapore, and spring in Sydney; avoid late December to early January, when long-haul fares and crowds peak.
-
Day 1 London
London: Westminster and the South Bank
Start at Westminster Abbey and the Houses of Parliament, cross Westminster Bridge and walk the South Bank past the London Eye to Tate Modern. Cross the Millennium Bridge to St Paul's Cathedral and finish in Covent Garden. Contactless cards and phone wallets work on every bus and Tube line.
Signal Strong 4G and 5G on the plan's UK partners across central London; some deep Tube tunnels still drop between stations.
-
Day 2 London
London: the British Museum and the Tower
Spend the morning at the British Museum, then take the Tube to the Tower of London for the Crown Jewels and walk across Tower Bridge. In the late afternoon, explore Borough Market and walk back along the river, or visit the Natural History Museum and Hyde Park if it is raining.
Signal Full coverage in the city; thick stone walls at the Tower can weaken signal indoors.
-
Day 3 New York City
Fly to New York: the Brooklyn Bridge
Flight London to New York, about 8 hours.
Fly to New York, having applied for an ESTA in advance; heading west, you land by mid-afternoon. Take the subway or a car to Brooklyn, walk the DUMBO waterfront for the view under the Manhattan Bridge, then cross the Brooklyn Bridge on foot into Lower Manhattan at sunset and visit the 9/11 Memorial pools after dark.
Signal In the US this plan uses T-Mobile. Strong 5G across Manhattan and Brooklyn.
-
Day 4 New York City
New York: the Statue of Liberty and Central Park
Take an early ferry to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island, booking timed tickets ahead. In the afternoon, visit the Metropolitan Museum of Art and walk through Central Park past Bethesda Terrace and Bow Bridge. End at Times Square in the evening.
Signal Good on the harbour ferries and in Midtown; some subway tunnels between stations have no signal.
-
Day 5 New York City
New York: the High Line and Greenwich Village
Walk the High Line from Hudson Yards to the Whitney Museum, stopping at Chelsea Market. Continue through the West Village and Washington Square Park to SoHo and Chinatown. In the evening, go up an observation deck such as the Top of the Rock for the Midtown skyline.
Signal Excellent across Manhattan, including the High Line and the observation decks.
-
Day 6 In flight
The long flight to Tokyo
Flight New York to Tokyo, about 14 hours.
Spend the morning at Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, then head to JFK or Newark for the nonstop flight to Tokyo. You cross the International Date Line and land the following afternoon, so sleep on board and set your watch to Japan time.
Signal No land signal over the Pacific; switch roaming off for the flight and use the airline's wifi separately if offered.
-
Day 7 Tokyo
Tokyo: arrival and Shinjuku
Land at Haneda or Narita in the afternoon and set up a transit IC card in your phone wallet. Take the train into the city and keep the evening gentle: the free observation decks at the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building, then dinner in the alleys of Omoide Yokocho in Shinjuku.
Signal Your phone switches to au, NTT docomo or Rakuten Mobile on landing. Excellent coverage across Tokyo and the metro.
-
Day 8 Tokyo
Tokyo: Asakusa, Meiji Jingu and Shibuya
Visit Senso-ji in Asakusa early, then cross the city to Meiji Jingu's forest shrine. Walk down Takeshita Street and Omotesando to Shibuya, and see the scramble crossing from above at Shibuya Sky, booking a timed ticket. In the evening, explore the Ebisu or Nakameguro neighbourhoods.
Signal Excellent throughout, though crowds at Shibuya can slow data at peak times.
-
Day 9 Tokyo
Kamakura day trip
JR Yokosuka line from Tokyo to Kamakura, about 1 hour.
Take the train to Kamakura, the old samurai capital. Visit Tsurugaoka Hachimangu shrine, walk the Daibutsu hiking trail through the hills (check it is open; parts have closed after storms) to the Great Buddha at Kotoku-in, and see Hase-dera's gardens above the sea. Ride the Enoden line to Enoshima island before returning to Tokyo.
Signal Good in Kamakura and on Enoshima; weaker on the wooded Daibutsu trail.
-
Day 10 Singapore
Fly to Singapore: Marina Bay
Flight Tokyo to Singapore, about 7 hours.
Fly to Singapore, filling in the SG Arrival Card online beforehand, and take the MRT from Changi into the city. In the evening, walk the Marina Bay waterfront from the Merlion past the Esplanade's spiky domes to the Helix Bridge, then see the Supertree light show at Gardens by the Bay and the Cloud Forest dome if it is still open.
Signal Your phone switches to Singtel or StarHub on landing. Excellent 5G across the city and the MRT.
-
Day 11 Singapore
Singapore: Chinatown, Little India and the Botanic Gardens
Visit the Singapore Botanic Gardens and its National Orchid Garden in the cool of the morning. Take the MRT to Chinatown for the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple and lunch at Maxwell Food Centre, then to Little India and Kampong Glam for the Sultan Mosque. Take the overnight flight to Sydney.
Signal Full coverage, including inside the hawker centres. Download anything you need for Sydney before boarding.
-
Day 12 Sydney
Sydney: the Opera House and the Rocks

Signal Your phone switches to Optus or TPG Telecom on landing. Strong 4G and 5G around the harbour.
-
Day 13 Sydney
Sydney: Bondi to Coogee and Manly
Take the bus to Bondi and walk the coastal path south to Coogee, about two hours with swim stops. In the afternoon, take the ferry from Circular Quay to Manly, walk the beachfront to Shelly Beach and return at dusk for the view of the city lights.
Signal Good along the coastal walk and on the Manly ferry, with a few weak spots below the cliffs.
-
Day 14 Sydney
The Blue Mountains
Train from Sydney Central to Katoomba, about 2 hours.
Take the train to Katoomba. Walk to Echo Point for the Three Sisters, then follow the Prince Henry Cliff Walk or ride the Scenic World railway into the Jamison Valley. Return to Sydney in the evening, ready for your flight home.
Signal Good in Katoomba and at the main lookouts; weak or none on the valley floor.
Staying connected on this route
- Switch roaming off on long-haul flights and turn it back on after landing; your phone picks a new partner network in each country.
- Check the covered list for every stopover: the Maldives, Nepal and several Pacific and Caribbean islands are not on this plan.
- Apply for the US ESTA, Australian ETA or eVisitor and any UK ETA your passport needs before you start, and keep the approvals offline.
