Negril, including the length of the long west end beach and the cliffs, holds service well, and Port Antonio and the far east coast are reasonable in the towns. The interior is where it drops. The Blue Mountains lose signal in the valleys and on the coffee estate roads long before you reach the peak trail, and the ridge and the valley floor can behave completely differently a few minutes' walk apart. Cockpit Country, with its dense limestone hummocks and sinkholes, is the emptiest part of the island for coverage as well as for people. Beyond that, expect to be reading weather warnings, which matter here and change quickly, and checking whether a road is passable after heavy rain, since inland routes wash out. Long distance coach services and their timetables are online. And maps do a lot of work on roads where signposting is thin and directions come as landmarks.
